We've seen plenty of examples in the past where laptops, and even Wiimotes, have been used to control robots. This time, however, a software developed by Rodrigo Guiterrez and Jeff Craighead allows an iPhone to operate a PackBot. This little app can be directly installed and run on the iPhone. It connects directly to the PackBot via WiFi without needing a proxy server to relay signals. Additionally, it enables live streaming of footage captured by the PackBot directly onto the iPhone. Rumor has it that their next goal is to use the iPhone's accelerometer for control and switch to landscape full-screen mode for viewing the video feed, giving users a greater sense of presence. There's a demo video after the jump!
