Apple Applies for Solar-powered LCD Patent: A Boon for Laptops

The battery life of notebook computers has always been a big problem troubling IT manufacturers. Apple is currently researching the application of solar cells on mobile devices in order to significantly extend the usage time of these devices. In the past, due to the very limited space available on devices for installing solar panels, the use of solar energy has been greatly restricted. However, in this latest patent, Apple attempts to solve this issue by placing solar cells behind a special LCD display. This setup allows the solar cells to absorb light that passes through the LCD and convert it into electrical energy.
