There was a developed city whose inhabitants had high IQ, were good at creation and invented some new things. Even though they were advanced, they still had to rely on the original wood from the earth to sustain themselves. Thus, they kept excavating areas to obtain wood. As the wood diminished, the ecosystem became extremely unstable. The lord in charge of protecting the environment became enraged and immediately took advantage of the lack of trees around them, stirring up a sandstorm.
