The out-of-sync free throws and Yao Ming's critical low-level foul that led to his ejection nearly cost the Rockets their advantageous position of leading the Nuggets by 19 points yesterday. Fortunately, the Rockets' fortress-like defense held strong, allowing them to narrowly prevail 97-95 in the away game.
The worst aspect of the Rockets' performance that night was their free throws. Although they are ranked highest in the league for free throw percentage at 81% (third place), they set a season-low hit rate of 57% (20 out of 35 attempts) that night. This was also one of the reasons for the tight situation that arose towards the end.
