What is Taekwondo?

Taekwondo, where "Tae" (TAE) refers to kicking or smashing with the feet; "Kwon" (KWON) means striking with fists; and "Do" (DO) represents an artistic method. Taekwondo is an art that makes use of fists and feet. It is a martial art mainly characterized by foot techniques, which account for 70% of its practice. Taekwondo has a total of 24 forms, along with weapons training, grappling, joint locks, self-defense techniques, and over ten basic skills.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art developed through East Asian culture, rooted in Eastern philosophy, inheriting a long tradition, and based on the martial way spirit of "beginning with courtesy and ending with courtesy."

Today, Taekwondo is not merely a highly effective combat method but also a sophisticated form of physical art and a fitness exercise. Skill and control are fundamental qualities that Taekwondo learners must possess. Each technique is both stimulating and competitive. Taekwondo training is done without weapons, focusing on developing perseverance and explosive power, teaching practitioners how to use their fists and feet appropriately to protect themselves in suitable environments. This training can transform hands and feet into formidable weapons. When executed with full concentration, these strikes often yield astonishingly lethal results.
