Street Application of Taekwondo Part One

This is a difficult topic to discuss because the technical characteristics of taekwondo determine that it is not suitable for real street fights. Since we are discussing this today, we will definitely focus on the characteristics of taekwondo and its application in street combat.

First: Taekwondo has fast speed! On the street, one needs to be sharp-eyed and pay attention to the surroundings. When encountering an opponent, wait for them to attack first, then quickly dodge and move back, followed by continuous counterattacks. The street is not a competition; therefore, combinations are crucial. For most taekwondo enthusiasts, after throwing two kicks, they tend to pause and wait for the opponent's reaction. In a street fight, this is unnecessary. After stepping back, directly use a low roundhouse kick. If it lands, continue using it. Once in close range, use punches for attacks. The boxing techniques in taekwondo are generally poorly practiced. Watching some ITF matches abroad, both fighters sometimes punch with their heads up, which shows a lack of technique. When boxing, one must keep the head down and shoulders relaxed.
