According to reports yesterday, a netizen posted on Jingchu Network in Hubei Province that on March 17, female mayor of Dangyang, Fan Xiaolan, ran over and killed a young girl while driving. However, whether or not Mayor Fan provided assistance is disputed among the netizen's article, the deceased's family, and local government departments.

Netizen revelations: Police hope parents do not pursue charges.

On April 10 at 9:38 PM, an article titled "Shock! The mayor of Dangyang uses a public vehicle for private purposes, runs over and kills a child, then is taken away" caught attention on Jingchu Network in Hubei Province.

The article states, "At around 7 o'clock in the morning on March 17, 2008, Mayor of Dangyang Fan Xiaolan was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser from Yichang to the Chuanxin Primary School in Dangyang when she struck and killed a 10-year-old elementary school student. According to eyewitnesses, Fan Xiaolan's SUV crossed the line and occupied the wrong lane, after hitting the child, Fan immediately called her driver, and shortly thereafter, a Guangben car with the license plate number E60066 picked Fan up and took her away. The police department arrived soon after and cleaned up the scene; the body of the child who was run over was left by the side of the road. That day, the traffic police handed over 200,000 yuan in compensation to the child’s parents and told them not to investigate further!"
