The academic name for "chiffon" is "georgette" ---- Georgette, also known as crepe georgette, is a type of silk fabric woven with highly twisted yarns in both the weft and warp. The name georgette originates from France. The warp and weft threads use S-twist and Z-twist yarns with different twist directions, arranged alternately in a ZS, 2Z pattern, and are woven with a plain weave structure. The warp and weft density of the fabric is very low. After the raw silk fabric undergoes finishing, the untwisting of the silk threads causes it to shrink and wrinkle, forming georgette crepe with a surface covered in uniform wrinkles and a loose structure.
