What are Melasma

Also known as butterfly spots or liver spots, they appear in light brown, in patches. The size of the patches varies, with clear boundaries and irregular shapes. They do not protrude from the skin and are commonly found on the face, symmetrical on both cheeks. The main causes are related to endocrine disorders and female hormone imbalances;

Five major reasons for the appearance of spots:

1. External factors: UV exposure, use of poor-quality cosmetics, external stimulation causing abrasions;

2. Internal factors: Endocrine disorders:

A. Tyrosinase activity triggered by pregnancy leading to melanin deposition;

B. Acid-base imbalance with a tendency towards acidity can lead to slow metabolism, causing pigmentation;

C. Malnutrition, lack of vitamins, slowed metabolism, resulting in spots.

3. High mental stress, excessive fatigue, nervous system dysfunction, decreased adrenal lipid function, can lead to tyrosinase activity and consequent pigmentation.
