What is brow bone augmentation?

The slight protrusion of the eyebrows in Chinese people not only makes the eyebrows more prominent but also causes the eyes to appear relatively sunken, giving the forehead a sense of undulation. Both overly low or high eyebrows can affect aesthetics: when too low, it makes the eyeballs appear bulging and the forehead overly flat, lacking three-dimensionality; whereas when too high, it causes the eyebrows to be excessively forward, leading to deep-set eyes, which doesn't conform to the Eastern aesthetic. The shape of the eyebrows mainly depends on the bony foundation, specifically the development of the supraorbital ridge part of the frontal bone. Brow bone cosmetic surgery improves the appearance by adjusting the height of the brow bone.

1. Brow Bone Augmentation Surgery: Often uses artificial synthetic substitutes (polyethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, medical silicone, etc.) to locally increase the height of the brow bone. The shape and thickness of the implant are sculpted before the operation. Under local anesthesia, a small incision is made within or along the edge of the eyebrows (at the inner or outer corner of the eyebrow) to access the surface of the frontal bone, forming a cavity where the implant is placed. Post-surgery compression dressing is applied, with stitches removed after 5-7 days. The incision scar is generally not very noticeable.

This surgery is simple, with local swelling lasting about 1-2 weeks post-operation. Possible complications include: hypertrophic scarring at the incision site, implant rejection, infection, unsatisfactory appearance, etc.

2. Brow Bone Reduction Surgery: Involves surgically removing excessive bone material. To ensure smoothness and symmetry on both sides after bone removal, the operation often uses a coronal scalp incision. Under local anesthesia, the scalp flap is lifted to fully expose the bilateral brow bones. Specialized instruments are used to shave off or grind down a certain thickness of the bone, achieving the ideal height. Post-surgery compression dressing is applied for 7 days, with stitches removed thereafter. Significant swelling lasts 1-2 weeks post-operation. Possible complications include: bleeding, infection, incision scarring, numbness at the incision site, hair loss, unsatisfactory appearance, etc.
