Who is Suitable for Cheekbone Surgery

(Picture 1)

Currently, the main types of cheekbone and zygomatic arch surgery are internal osteotomy repositioning of the cheekbone and zygomatic arch, and cheekbone flattening.

The surgical incisions that can be referenced in the literature include: intraoral incision, combined intraoral and preauricular incision, and scalp coronal incision.

Cheekbone grinding is suitable for cases where only the cheekbone is locally high while the zygomatic arch is neither prominent nor high. Due to the location of the zygomatic arch on the side of the face and its inherent thickness, it is not suitable for those with a high zygomatic arch to undergo bone grinding. The lower angle of the cheekbone plays a very important role in maintaining the normal shape of the human face, so when grinding the cheekbone, it is forbidden to completely grind away the lower angle of the cheekbone. Based on clinical observations, the results of simply grinding the cheekbone after surgery are often unsatisfactory. Therefore, at present, units or hospitals with higher levels mostly use less of the simple cheekbone grinding surgical method.

Suitable candidates for cheekbone surgery:

Since everyone's requirements for beauty and expectations for surgery differ, there is currently no clear definition or diagnostic standard for so-called "high cheekbones." Generally, it is mainly determined through visual observation and each person's satisfaction with their own face. Moreover, so-called "high cheekbones" sometimes also relate to the amount of subcutaneous fat (or being overweight or underweight). For example, if the face is very thin, in most cases, the cheekbones and zygomatic arch will appear relatively high. Genetic factors and regional factors (such as in Guangdong and Guangxi) also have a certain relationship with high cheekbones. Some people may indeed appear to have slightly protruding cheekbones from a 45-degree facial angle, but from the perspective of most people, they do not fall into the category of "high cheekbones." However, due to these individuals' pursuit of perfection and special psychological needs, and because surgery can indeed improve their appearance, these people can also be considered one of the indications for high cheekbone surgery.
