The superior natural conditions of the Wupai River not only attract tens of thousands of tourists but also draw officials and experts from the Water Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport who are searching domestically for training and competition venues for whitewater kayaking. After investigating the Wupai River drift, they confirmed: The Wupai River currently has the most ideal comprehensive conditions domestically and is the only location that can satisfy all six levels of training and competition in world whitewater kayaking. In August 2001, the General Administration of Sport successfully hosted the "2001 Guilin Wupai River National Drifting Invitational" on the Wupai River, laying a solid foundation for hosting international competitions in the future.
The Wupai River Drifting Resort is not only a great destination for tourism and sports but also a place of significant importance during the Long March of the Red Army. The first high mountain crossed by the Red Army during the Long March, "Laoshan Boundary," is right next to the Wupai River. Currently, the Resource County government plans to build a patriotic education base commemorating the Red Army's Long March at Tangdong, at the foot of Laoshan Boundary.
