The area is only 2.5 square kilometers, with a population of about 80,000, but it is still divided into four areas: Henveyru, Galolu, Machchangoli, and Maafannu. There are no deliberately paved asphalt roads; instead, the views are filled with bright white sand paths. The dazzling white coral reefs and mostly blue or green painted doors and windows create a striking color contrast. Houses are usually built tall and narrow, supposedly to avoid demon invasions. Due to having been under British jurisdiction, some buildings also carry a strong British style. In this miniature national capital, cars seem superfluous as people either ride bicycles or walk.
