The second highest peak in the world, at an altitude of 8611 meters, "Qogir" in Tajik means "tall and magnificent". It is the main peak of the Karakoram Mountains, also known as K2 abroad. It is located in the middle section of the Karakoram Mountains, at 76°30′ East longitude and 35°54′ North latitude. Its northwest-southeast ridge is the main ridge line, and it is also the national boundary between China and Pakistan. The peak is pyramid-shaped, with ice cliffs standing upright, making for a perilous mountain. On the steep slopes, there are traces of avalanche chutes, which suggests how frequent avalanches occur. The north side of the peak looks like it has been carved by a knife or ax, with an average slope exceeding 45°, and a vertical drop reaching 4700 meters, making it the mountain with the largest vertical drop on Earth. To the north of Qogir Peak lies a large glacier over 44 kilometers long (Yinsugaiti Glacier).
