Yueya Lake is located to the northeast of Hulin City, 18 kilometers away from Hutou Town. Yueya Lake is shaped like a crescent moon, hence its name. In September 1987, it was officially approved by the state as a "grassland nature reserve". The reserve covers an area of 77,000 mu, including about 5,000 mu of lake surface. At the eastern tip of the lake, there is a gentle stream that connects it tightly with the Wusuli River.
The Yueya Lake Nature Reserve is home to primitive ecological species, including 50 species of trees, 70 genera of shrubs, and 413 species of various grasses. It is also a habitat for more than 40 kinds of precious animals such as red deer, roe deer, black bears, Wusuli raccoon dogs, flying squirrels, snow hares, red-crowned cranes, swans, herons, mandarin ducks, etc. Bird Island on the Wusuli River is only 3,200 meters away from the tourist area, with the closest point being about 1 kilometer away. The lake is famous for its abundant production of crucian carp and also produces other fish such as carp, catfish, and pike.
