The Basha Miao ethnic tribe has a population of more than 2000, living in five villages at the foot of Moon Mountain within Mangran Forest which is located 6 kilometers south of Congjiang County in Guizhou Province. On entering Basha, you can see lush forests everywhere. They mainly grow rice and hunt. Here, the forest is thick with narrow trails winding through it, providing great seclusion as very few outsiders have entered over hundreds of years. Bashan Village is not large, built on the mountain ridge and half way up the slope facing the Duliu River. The wooden buildings of the village are simple and ancient; the surrounding area is covered by dense forest making for a tranquil environment; all the villagers are Miao people who dress traditionally and have unique hairstyles.
