Ethiopia border. Before setting off, I could find quite little information about the Afar people. The Horn of Africa desert area where they live is one of the hottest and driest areas in the world. There are few water sources, and everywhere is sandy. Apart from frequently visiting sandstorms, there are almost no outsiders; the Afar people also have no written language, and information has been passed down orally for generations, making it difficult to obtain from the outside world.
