The plan to expand and integrate the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has been approved by the state! Starting from July 1, 2010, the scope of the Shenzhen SEZ will be expanded to cover the entire city of Shenzhen, including the districts of Bao'an and Longgang (which encompass the光明新区and 坪山新区). However, the tangible disparities between inside and outside of the "Guannei" and "Guanwai" areas that have developed over 30 years are evident for all to see. How will integration take place? In which areas will it occur? And what impact will this have on ordinary citizens? Homebuyers and investors in the real estate market outside the customs boundary are filled with barely contained joy and anticipation. But amidst their happiness, they can't help but wonder: Will the expansion really allow the Guanwai areas to transform instantly and enjoy the same benefits as Guannei? And after the customs boundary is removed, how many more years will it take for the Guanwai and Guannei areas to truly become one?
