Shalan Chicken is a traditional breed raised by families in the Shalan area of the Triangular Town. It is characterized by its tender and smooth meat texture, and its delicious taste. It has historically been distributed to the provincial areas, Hong Kong, and Macao. In 1986, after evaluation and identification by the Editorial Committee of Guangdong Province's Livestock and Poultry Breed Gazette and the Guangdong Provincial Animal Husbandry Bureau, the Shalan Chicken was selected for inclusion in the "Guangdong Province Livestock and Poultry Breed Gazette" and rated as one of the excellent local breeds in the province. From June 25th to 27th, 1999, during the Guangdong Province Youth Three High Agriculture Expo held in Guangzhou, the Shalan Chicken received a bronze award.
