Dongyuan chestnuts are Dongyuan’s traditionally distinctive agricultural products, with a long history of cultivation and a good reputation throughout the province. Dongyuan chestnuts mature in mid-September; first grade chestnuts average about 70 per kilogram. They are large and high quality, with an oily sheen, and may be considered the best of chestnuts. Dongyuan chestnuts are nutritious and have a unique flavor, sweet but not greasy. They can be used as a grain substitute or for meals, suitable for eating both cooked or raw. They are nutritious, and good for the stomach, kidneys, muscles and bones.
