Maonan kaolin mainly consists of kaolinite group minerals (kaolinite, dickite, nacrite, halloysite, etc.) in the form of tiny flakes, tubes, and stacked sheets smaller than 2 microns. Maonan kaolin is an important non-metallic mineral resource, and it is regarded as one of the four major non-metallic minerals along with mica, quartz, and calcium carbonate. The application of Maonan kaolin in the papermaking industry is very extensive. It is mainly used in two areas: one is as a filler used in the papermaking (or paper-copying) process, and the other is as a pigment used in the surface coating process.
