The eighteen pools in the west of Beijing is one of the rare natural scenic spots in northern China. The brook in the valley flows all year round. The ancients said: "Ten thousand layers of Yan Mountain and ten thousand layers of springs, flying for thousands of miles and hanging on the long river", the eighteen pools are located in Anjiazhuang within the Wangping area of Mentougou, known for its deep valley, strange rocks, special water, and different flowers. It leans against Qing Shui Jian and faces Yongding River, with mountains surrounding water. The brook in the valley flows all year round, with overlapping peaks and winding ridges, forming waterfalls when encountering cliffs and pools when meeting ravines, creating the famous natural landscape of "three waterfalls, six scenes, and eighteen pools". The entrance of the valley has two mountains like a door, tracing the valley upward, a peak with three turns, all the mountains are peculiar and steep. Strange peaks and rocks, flying springs and beautiful waterfalls, breaking stones and分流(diverting streams), sound echoing in the cliff caves. The mountain walls stand thousands of feet tall, birds and beasts gather together, the cliff walls are covered with vines, and flowers cluster like weaving. The three waterfalls flow straight down, the higher ones are more than three zhang (ten meters). The six scenes each have their own characteristics, and the eighteen pools vary in depth.
