The Imperial Academy is located on Chengxian Street, inside the Andingmen (Anding Gate), to the west of the Confucius Temple. The Imperial Academy was the highest institution of learning set up by the state in the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties for training reserve talents for the government offices. It was initially built in the 10th year of Dade in the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1306). According to traditional rules of "temple on the left and academy on the right", the Imperial Academy is adjacent to the Confucius Temple.
