"The Pillar of the Southern Sky" is said to have been written by Fan Yun梯, the magistrate of Yazhou during the Xuantong era of the Qing Dynasty. There is also a legend about the origin of "The Pillar of the Southern Sky". It is said that long ago, there were two Li族 fairy sisters from Ling Shui who secretly descended to earth. They stood in the South China Sea, helping the local fishermen navigate and fish. When the Queen Mother of Heaven found out, she was extremely angry and sent the Thunder God and Thunder Mother to capture them. Unwilling to return, they transformed into a twin peak stone and were split into two. One piece fell into the sea near Lian An, while the other flew to the side of the 'End of the Earth', becoming today's "Pillar of the Southern Sky".
