According to the Tibetan Mastiff Information Network (http://www.zangaoxinxi.com/), during a total solar eclipse, among animals, local Tibetan mastiffs become particularly restless. There are often unusual scenes of them howling at the sky. Their cries resemble lion roars and leave tourists in awe.
Regarding this phenomenon, Zhu Jin, the director of the Beijing Planetarium, stated that during a solar eclipse, the light intensity decreases significantly, especially in the totality zone where day suddenly turns into night. This creates a disorienting sensation for animals, making them feel as though night has fallen during the day. Animals that are sensitive to light react more noticeably. For instance, poultry and birds, which are more sensitive, will return to their nests; whereas for larger mammals, the impact is relatively smaller, but they still exhibit signs of restlessness, especially dogs.
