At around 6:20 AM on October 20th, Huang Zhaoluan was stabbed by three unidentified individuals within less than 100 meters from his home. He sustained severe injuries and was sent to the hospital where he underwent more than four hours of emergency treatment. However, due to excessive blood loss, he went into shock and later died.

After the incident, the leaders of the province, Zhanjiang, and Lianjiang City gave it high attention. The provincial and city leaders respectively issued instructions and formed a special investigation team. This team was led by Chen Zhi, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission, with Chen Xuhui, member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Director of Public Security Bureau, serving as the deputy leader, to strengthen the leadership in solving the case. Meanwhile, Lianjiang City issued a public wanted notice, offering a reward of 30,000 to 40,000 yuan for information leading to the capture of the perpetrators. Leaders from the provincial and Zhanjiang public security organs personally directed the operation from Lianjiang. The Lianjiang Public Security Bureau mobilized all police forces, including 26 grassroots police stations, fully committing them to the investigation. Six case-solving groups were established to find the murderers at the crime scene and to uncover clues by focusing on points of conflict.
