Common farmer invents alley-used mini fire truck (photo) 18671079399

Kang Shexin, 57, is an ordinary farmer who is known as a "non-rostered fireman". In the last 18 years, he has participated in over 600 rescues using self-made firefighting rescue vehicles. Recently, he has created a motorcycle-based fire truck.

The reporter recently visited Kang Shexin's home located on Luochang Road to see his new "invention". Two water tanks, one air pump, and one compressed air steel bottle are fixed on both sides of the motorcycle and its back seat. At first glance, it looks a bit strange.

Master Kang gave us a live demonstration of the mini fire truck: He filled the two water tanks with water first, then started the motorcycle. After about a minute, he opened the valve of the compressed air steel bottle, then the water spray valve. Instantly, a jet of water was shot out about 20 meters away. (See the picture above.) From starting the motorcycle to spraying water from the water gun, the entire process took only one minute and 30 seconds. Master Kang said that the two water tanks on the vehicle could hold more than 70 kilograms of water, which was enough to handle a general fire.

One day in June last year, a car near Master Kang's house caught fire. After receiving a call for help, he drove his multi-functional rescue vehicle to the scene but was unable to do anything. It turned out that the burning vehicle was in a small alley where the rescue vehicle couldn't enter.

"If I had a micro fire truck, I could have extinguished the fire in time. That's when I thought of motorcycles," said Master Kang. So, he began making a motorcycle-based fire truck. After nearly a year of effort, Master Kang completed his motorcycle-based fire truck, which he humorously called a "mini fire truck" due to its smaller size.

After watching Master Kang's experiment, Li Congjun, Director of the Combat Command Center of the Municipal Public Security Fire Brigade, said that this kind of micro fire truck had promotional value. It could be widely used in the back streets and alleys of cities and in rural areas. When used during the initial stages of a fire, it could effectively reduce property damage. Additionally, its operation method was simple, and one person could form a combat unit.

Since 1994, Kang Shexin has been engaged in voluntary rescue operations. From three-wheeled fire rescue vehicles to small double-row car rescue vehicles, and then to large truck multi-functional fire rescue vehicles, in the past 18 years, he has participated in over 600 rescues using self-made fire rescue vehicles, successfully saving more than 700 people.
