Let's turn our attention to another incident of assault that occurred in Sanya. On the afternoon of January 30, outside the South China Grand Hotel in Sanya, a violent conflict erupted between more than ten hotel security guards and three touts. This resulted in the three touts being beaten and hospitalized, one of whom became a vegetable. In previous episodes, we have continuously reported on this matter. And just on the evening of the 15th of this month, news came from the hospital that Li Weixing, who was most seriously injured, ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
On the afternoon of January 30, when Deng Hongyou from Jiangxi Province was promoting diving activities on the Dadonghai beach in Sanya, he was insulted by the security guards of the South China Grand Hotel. As a result, Li Weixing and others went to help mediate, only to be beaten by more than ten security guards from the South China Grand Hotel. This led to Li Weixing and two others being hospitalized. On February 15, Li Weixing, who had the most severe injuries, died after unsuccessful attempts at resuscitation. On February 17, reporters once again met with Li Weixing's family. According to them, Li Weixing's body is still stored in the hospital morgue. Discussions about this matter are ongoing.
Li Weixing's family: The Public Security Bureau held a coordination meeting, but we haven't seen anyone from the hotel side yet. (How is the compensation negotiation going?) Compensation negotiations have not yet begun.
Subsequently, reporters learned from the South China Grand Hotel in Sanya that after Li Weixing's death, they had also proposed a certain economic compensation plan. However, due to the excessive compensation amount demanded by the deceased's family, currently, this matter can only be resolved through legal means. Meanwhile, the hotel side also stated that although such an incident has occurred, the hotel will still drive away these touts within its premises to ensure the normal leisure of guests.
General Manager Tian Minghua of the South China Grand Hotel in Sanya: They approach every guest they see, promoting diving or shopping. If guests are lured into participating in these projects and disputes or dissatisfaction arise, it would create negative impacts for the hotel.
On one hand, the hotel detests such touting behavior deeply. On the other hand, this behavior continues to exist. Although the tragedy of Li Weixing's death occurred, reporters found that there were still many touts active near Dadonghai.
Tout: (Does your behavior affect tourists?) How could it affect? It should be a good thing, cheaper prices.
According to these touts, the guests they lure will be handed over to some drivers or tourism companies, from which they receive a certain commission.
Tout: We don't have cars. Where can we make money? Even if you want me to do something, I can't.
Family of Li Weixing: Because there are many forms of salespeople now, there are no explicit regulations prohibiting them. They can only earn about a hundred yuan a day.
Due to the existence of travel kickbacks, these touts have considerable space to operate. However, in our past reports, we have repeatedly reported that participating in tourism projects through irregular means often leads to poor service quality and various disputes. Therefore, on one hand, tourists themselves should try to choose legitimate venues to participate in tourism projects. On the other hand, relevant government departments should strengthen the standardization of the tourism market and regulate improper touting behaviors. This is not only to maintain the normal order of tourism but also to prevent tragedies like Li Weixing's from happening again.
