At around 2 p.m. the day before yesterday, a fire truck collided with a man riding an electric bike near the Tianxin Village Committee intersection on Jintian Road in Pingshan New District while responding to a fire emergency. The man was sent to the hospital but died after unsuccessful resuscitation.
Accident Occurs During Reinforcement
At around 1 p.m. the day before yesterday, a fire broke out at an industrial zone named Tong Fuyi Industrial Zone in Tianxin Community, Pingshan New District. According to eyewitnesses, large plumes of black smoke could be seen from afar. The company, called Guyun Electronic Wood Art Co., Ltd., mainly produced wooden products. The fire occurred on the second and third floors of a four-story factory building where there were stored thinners along with wood and other flammable materials, which caused a big fire. However, since the fire broke out during lunch break, there were no casualties. At around 4 p.m. the day before yesterday, a reporter from Nanfang Daily arrived at the entrance of the factory area and saw obvious signs of soot on the exterior walls of the affected factory. Police cars were frequently entering and exiting the factory premises for investigation.
After the factory caught fire, the emergency fire service and public security fire officers from the Pingshan Office immediately rushed to extinguish the fire. Due to the large scale of the fire, more fire trucks were dispatched as reinforcements. However, an accident occurred during this process. According to eyewitnesses, at around 2 p.m., a fire truck heading for reinforcement drove along Jintian Road from the Pingshan direction towards the fire scene. The fire truck turned left prematurely before reaching the intersection of the industrial zone. After being reminded by onlookers standing by the roadside, the vehicle returned to the road, and during this process, it collided with an electric bike. The fire truck had been continuously sounding its siren as a warning while in motion.
According to a video taken by a bystander, the front of the fire truck was parked on the left side of the road at the time, and the man on the electric bike lay on the ground behind the car. Firefighters and medical personnel from 120 were simultaneously present handling the situation. The injured man was then sent to the Pingshan People's Hospital for emergency treatment.
Doctors at Pingshan People's Hospital introduced that when the man was brought to the hospital, his pupils were already dilated, he was unconscious, his blood pressure was very low, and his internal organs were damaged. In addition, his right calf was fractured. After resuscitation efforts, he ultimately passed away in the afternoon due to respiratory and circulatory failure. The man was named He Zhong and was 47 years old.
The Cause of the Accident is Still Under Investigation
After the incident, Pingshan Fire Department stated that the fire truck involved in the collision was not from the public security fire department but possibly a specialized fire team hired by the government department, managed by the local street office. Upon investigation, the vehicle involved in the accident belonged to the Kengzi Militia Emergency Fire Brigade. A relevant person in charge of the Kengzi Office introduced that two fire trucks were dispatched at the time, one of which collided with an electric bike on Jintian Road. Following the accident, they immediately called 120 to rescue the injured person. The specific cause of the accident will be determined by the traffic police.
Pingshan Traffic Police confirmed that this accident resulted in the death of a man. Currently, the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
