No. 10 Xibianmen was built in the 1950s. After weathering 60 years of wind and frost, it had long become a dangerous building. In 1999, a big fire killed four people, one of whom was pregnant. Afterwards, the State Administration proposed to renovate the dangerous building. During this period, two dangerous house appraisals and three public opinion polls were carried out. Each time, more than 90% of the residents supported demolition and reconstruction. There were four design plan announcements. Due to the strong opposition of Mrs. Wang Kewen in the courtyard, she incited her husband's student Zhou Ganzhi (a member of both academies) to use his connections to list No. 10 Xibianmen as an excellent modern building in Beijing. The dangerous renovation was abruptly stopped in 2009. To date, more than a thousand residents are still living on the brink of life and death. What makes people feel even colder is that the State Administration, seeing no hope for renovation, arbitrarily used the funds from the 2008 Olympic Games project to repair the doors and windows and roads of the dangerous buildings without any value for repair. There was no consideration for repairing the walls and structures. The 25 million yuan repair project was carried out without prior notice or bidding, and there was no audit or acceptance afterwards. It was hastily completed. For 12 years, the dangerous renovation has been ongoing without results. Demolition and reconstruction have only led to repair projects, with no public opinion, only power! The life and death of more than a thousand residents have been dragged on like this. The Chinese people drove away the Japanese in eight years and defeated the Kuomintang in four years, but we have spent 12 years and still cannot fight for a place that originally belonged to us.
