No. 10 Xibianmen was originally built in the 1950s, and after 60 years of wind and frost, it has become a dangerous building long ago. In 1999, a big fire killed four people, one of whom was pregnant. After that, the State Administration for Public Affairs proposed to renovate the dangerous building. During this period, there were two appraisals of dangerous houses and three public opinion polls. Each time, more than 90% of the residents supported demolition and reconstruction. The design plan was announced four times. Due to the strong opposition of Mrs. Wang Kewen in the courtyard and instigation of her husband's student Zhou Ganzhi (academician of the two academies) to use his relationship to establish No. 10 Xibianmen as an excellent modern building in Beijing, the renovation of the dangerous building came to an abrupt end in 2009. To this day, more than a thousand residents are still living on the brink of life and death. What makes people feel even colder is that the State Administration for Public Affairs, seeing no hope for transformation, arbitrarily used the funds of the 2008 Olympic engineering project to repair the windows, doors and roads of the dangerous buildings without any value for repairs, but did not consider repairing the walls and structures. The 25 million yuan repair project was completed hastily without prior notice, bidding, audit and acceptance after the event. For 12 years of renovation, there is no result but only progress, demolition and reconstruction but only repair projects, no public opinion but only power! The lives of more than a thousand residents have been delayed like this. The Chinese people drove away the Japanese in eight years and defeated the Kuomintang in four years, but we spent 12 years and failed to fight for a house that belongs to us.
