Causes of Female Salpingitis

Salpingitis refers to the inflammation of a woman's fallopian tubes and can be divided into two major categories: acute and chronic. Salpingitis is mainly caused by pathogens such as staphylococci, streptococci, E. coli, gonococci, proteus, pneumococcus, chlamydia, etc., and is one of the important reasons for female infertility.

So, what causes salpingitis in women?

Gynecological experts introduce that the common causes leading to salpingitis in women include the following points:

[1] Reduced systemic and local resistance after abortion, childbirth, or during menstruation. The damage to the birth canal and placental separation surface caused by delivery or abortion, or the uterine endometrial shedding during menstruation, can lead to the invasion of pathogens, thus triggering salpingitis.

[2] Infections due to inflammation spreading from adjacent tissues or organs, mainly reproductive tract infections such as vaginitis, cervical inflammation, and endometritis moving upward, or the spread of purulent appendicitis and peritonitis to the fallopian tubes and other pelvic reproductive organs, causing salpingitis.

[3] Invasive examinations or treatments where infection prevention measures are not strictly followed, such as diagnostic curettage, treatment of cervical inflammation, uterine tubal irrigation, or insertion of intrauterine devices in the clinic.

[4] Sexual transmission such as unhygienic sex, promiscuity, or repeated infections passed from an infected husband to his wife, leading to salpingitis.

Experts remind: If acute salpingitis in women is not treated in time, it can develop into chronic salpingitis. Chronic salpingitis that persists for a long time can cause adhesion of the inner mucosa of the fallopian tube, leading to blockage of the fallopian tube, secondary infertility, or incomplete obstruction of the fallopian tube, increasing the chances of ectopic pregnancy. Therefore, if women suffer from salpingitis, they should seek treatment at a regular hospital as soon as possible.
