What are the symptoms of female infertility?
According to a survey conducted by the World Health Organization in 33 centers across 25 countries during the mid-to-late 1980s: about 5% to 8% of couples in developed countries are affected by infertility, while in some regions of developing countries, the prevalence of infertility can reach as high as 30%. In China, it is approximately 6% to 15%. Worldwide, the number of infertile patients is estimated to be between 80 million and 110 million.
With the increasing number of infertile patients, women's attention to infertility is also growing. So, how can women discover whether they have infertility at the earliest time? What are the symptoms of female infertility?
Gynecological experts introduce: many women only realize they have infertility after a long time of being unable to conceive. In fact, if women are careful, they can detect the early symptoms of infertility and take preventive measures against infertility early on.
So, what are the early symptoms of female infertility?
Experts introduce: depending on individual circumstances, the symptoms of female infertility may vary. However, there are seven common symptoms.
Symptoms of female infertility:
[1] Irregular menstruation: changes in menstrual cycle, amount, and duration. This is commonly seen in cases of luteal phase defect and endometrial inflammation.
[2] Dysmenorrhea: abdominal pain during menstruation can occur due to conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine fibroids, underdeveloped uterus, or abnormal uterine position.
[3] Amenorrhea: no menstruation by the age of 18; menstruation starts but then stops for more than 6 months continuously. A significant number of infertility cases are caused by amenorrhea, which can be classified into uterine, ovarian, pituitary, or hypothalamic causes.
[4] Premenstrual symptoms: some women experience cyclical symptoms before or after menstruation, such as "premenstrual breast tenderness," "menstrual headaches," "diarrhea during menstruation," "swelling during menstruation," "fever during menstruation," "oral ulcers during menstruation," "acne before menstruation," "urticaria during menstruation," "depression or irritability during menstruation." These symptoms are often caused by hormonal imbalances and luteal phase defects, which can lead to infertility.
[5] Abdominal pain: chronic lower abdominal pain, bilateral flank pain, or lumbar-sacral pain often occurs in cases of pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine myositis, oophoritis, endometriosis, or tumors in the uterus or ovaries.
[6] Abnormal vaginal discharge: when conditions like vaginitis, cervicitis (cervical erosion), endometritis, adnexal inflammation, pelvic inflammatory disease, or various sexually transmitted diseases exist, symptoms such as increased vaginal discharge, yellow color, odor, curd-like or watery consistency, or itching and pain in the external genitalia may occur. These conditions can affect fertility to varying degrees.
[7] Galactorrhea: spontaneous or post-compression lactation outside of breastfeeding periods often suggests hypothalamic dysfunction, pituitary tumors, prolactinomas, primary hypothyroidism, chronic renal failure, or can be caused by contraceptive pills and antihypertensive drugs like reserpine. Galactorrhea often coexists with amenorrhea, leading to infertility.
