Hunan's "Shao orphans" shocks the whole country: adopting abandoned children or children who have lost their families is a charitable act, a humanitarian cause. However, the "Shao orphans" turned such a cause into an ethical tragedy and a social crime. These children were abducted from the arms of their parents as hostages to force their families to pay social child-raising fees. Then, like tearing up a ransom note, the parents never saw them again. They were sent to welfare institutions (all surnames were changed to Shao) and then shipped overseas. Such "adoption" has degenerated into trafficking, and throughout the entire process, it was completed by official institutions and government employees.
