How Long Does It Take to Treat Mild Cervical Erosion?
Gynecological experts introduce: Cervical erosion is a common disease among women, with about 20% or more women suffering from it. It is one of the local characteristics of chronic cervicitis. It is divided into three categories based on the size of the eroded area: mild cervical erosion, moderate cervical erosion, and severe cervical erosion. When the eroded area is less than 1/3 of the entire cervix, it is classified as mild cervical erosion; when the eroded area accounts for between 1/3 to 2/3 of the cervix, it is considered moderate cervical erosion; and when the eroded area covers more than 2/3 of the entire cervix, it is categorized as severe cervical erosion.
Generally speaking, if mild cervical erosion is not treated in time, it can lead to more serious conditions, gradually transforming into severe cervical erosion. Severe cervical erosion can affect fertility. The white blood cells contained in secretions after contracting the disease will engulf sperm, preventing them from entering the uterine cavity, resulting in a significant reduction in sperm count before they even reach the uterine cavity. The activity of sperm also gradually decreases, reducing the chances of sperm combining with the egg, leading to infertility.
So, how long does it take to treat mild cervical erosion?
Gynecological experts introduce: Since the condition of mild cervical erosion is relatively mild, treatment is also relatively easy and does not take a long time.
Currently, physical methods are generally chosen as the main local treatment method for cervical erosion. Therefore, it is recommended to undergo treatment 3 to 7 days after menstruation ends. After treatment for cervical erosion, the columnar epithelium of the eroded area dies off and falls away, allowing new squamous epithelium to grow over it, which takes approximately 3 to 4 weeks. For deeper lesions, it may take 6 to 8 weeks.
Gynecological experts remind: Although patients with mild cervical erosion may have the possibility of self-healing if they pay more attention to hygiene, maintain a balanced diet, avoid spicy foods, and refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol, the time required for self-healing will be longer than what patients might imagine. Therefore, patients should still seek regular treatment at a hospital as soon as possible to prevent delays that could worsen their condition.
