From January 29 to 30, 2011, the annual Sydney Chinese New Year Market event was held in Belmore Park. This market featured a variety of cultural performances and exhibition booths. A group of Hubei folk artists specially came to Australia to display Chinese traditional folk cultures such as Tujia ballads, paper cutting, embroidery, bamboo carving, and printmaking. There were also Tai Chi Kung Fu performances from Wudang, evoking waves of admiration from Chinese and foreign friends alike. This event received strong support from the Sydney City Council and the Department of Culture of China. Chinese international students in Sydney also enthusiastically signed up as volunteers.
