At around 6 in the morning, the scene was filled with a strong smell of gasoline. A tanker truck was overturned on the main road facing the Panjiayuan Bridge. There were cracks on the top of the oil tank and diesel fuel kept leaking out. Since under the Panjiayuan Bridge is a concave area, the diesel flowed out of the tank and continued to flow all the way to under the Panjiayuan Bridge. There were more than 100 meters of diesel marks on the road.
The firefighters used plugging equipment to seal the crack on the top of the tanker and removed the battery. A large crane lifted and uprighted the tanker truck. While the crane was operating, the firefighters still sprayed water guns and foam guns to prevent sparks from igniting the diesel. There were many onlookers at the scene, and some were still smoking and making phone calls. Firefighters and police officers continuously evacuated the onlookers away from the scene and stopped people from smoking and using mobile phones. At around 7:30, the tow truck took the tanker truck away, and it wasn't until 8 o'clock that the traffic on the Third Ring Road returned to normal. The traffic management department said that this tanker truck departed from an oil depot in Fangshan District yesterday, loaded with 10 tons of diesel destined for a gas station in Chaoyang District. A worker inside the overturned tanker said that the tanker overturned because it was cut off by a jeep. The driver's head was injured, but he was fine overall.
