"The flood of 'chemical bean sprouts' sees large quantities entering the Wuhan market on a daily basis, with no supervision either inside or outside of the market.
Recently, investigations in both the Jiangnan and Jiangbei areas of Wuhan uncovered extensive underground operations for 'chemical bean sprout' production. Some rooms used for seed soaking and sprout incubation were covered in mold, with conditions so deteriorated that they were filthy and putrid. Even more shocking to the undercover investigators was the fact that before these hormone-soaked sprouts, grown in such adverse conditions, were packed into black plastic bags for sale, they were dipped into bleach water one by one to 'preserve freshness'. Subsequently, these products were continuously shipped to hotels, schools, and markets."
