Two Women, One Large and One Small

Report by our correspondent Jiang Lin - Yesterday, CCTV commentator Ma Xiaolin pointed out during the 15:00 "News Live" program that various signs indicate that the Moscow subway bombing was a carefully planned and meticulously executed terrorist attack. The Chechen separatist organization's "Black Widows," female suicide bombers, are highly likely to be the perpetrators of this action. To further understand the progress of local events, our correspondent connected yesterday with Phoenix TV’s Moscow-based reporter Lu Yuguang and Dr. Chen Zhihao, who is studying in Moscow.

Lu Yuguang said that according to the subway surveillance video, the suicide bomber responsible for the explosion at the Lubyanka subway station was a woman in her 40s from the North Caucasus region. She boarded the train early yesterday morning at a southern Moscow subway station. After the train opened its doors at the Lubyanka station, an explosion occurred, destroying the last carriage. Approximately 40 minutes later, another explosion happened at the Park Kultury subway station. The suicide bomber was also a woman from the North Caucasus region, possibly between 20 to 30 years old. Surveillance footage showed that the train was overturned by the explosion, and the woman fell outside the carriage.

According to Dr. Chen Zhihao, who is studying in Moscow, there were other witnesses who reported seeing a person with distinct features from the Caucasus region moving through the subway, carrying a large bag, which aroused suspicion among local residents. A resident approached to inspect the bag, and upon discovering it contained metal objects, a physical altercation ensued. Eventually, the police arrived on the scene to handle the situation. Locals speculated that this individual attempted to carry out a terrorist attack but failed.

Eyewitness Accounts

One Person Survives Two Explosions Unscathed

Some eyewitnesses described the chaotic scenes at the site. At the first location where the explosion occurred, the Lubyanka subway station, witnesses stated that the blast was not very powerful, but the subway station was filled with smoke. The explosion happened during the morning rush hour, and approximately 1,000 people scrambled to leave the underground via the only elevator available. Many injured individuals were caught in the chaos.

An eyewitness named Alexandra said, "I was terrified. The explosion was deafening, but I didn't immediately think it was a terrorist attack. Later, when I saw the smoke spreading, I realized an explosion had occurred."

She added, "My only thought was to get out of here as quickly as possible." She managed to board another subway train and reached the Park Kultury station. However, just a few minutes later, an explosion occurred there as well. Fortunately, she was unharmed. She remarked, "I'm so lucky." (China News)

Russian Prosecutor: Explosion Power Equivalent to About 3 Kilograms of TNT

According to reports from Moscow via Xinhua News Agency, Moscow City Prosecutor Shoming stated on the 29th that the explosion that occurred at the Lubyanka subway station in Moscow today had a power equivalent to about 3 kilograms of TNT, and the other explosion at the Park Kultury subway station had a similar intensity.

Shoming said that one of the carriages at the Lubyanka subway station exploded while passengers were boarding and disembarking. Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosive power was equivalent to about 3 kilograms of TNT, "The explosive device was strapped to the body of the suicide attacker."

Additionally, Russian Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov declared at an emergency meeting chaired by President Medvedev that the terrorists used RDX (a military-grade high-energy explosive, also known as cyclone explosive) in both subway explosions.
