March 29 (ECNS) -- According to reports from RIA Novosti, Russia's Emergencies Ministry said that two suspected terrorist explosions occurred in the subway station at Moscow city center during the morning peak hours on the local time of March 29. At least 37 people were killed and 25 others injured.
The first explosion happened at 8:00 a.m. local time (1:00 p.m. Beijing Time). It was at Lubyanka Metro Station. At least 23 people were killed and 18 others injured, with many seriously wounded.
An employee of RIA Novosti who was on the train said that the explosion happened in the tunnel between Lubyanka Metro Station and Okhotny Ryad Metro Station which is close to the Kremlin.
About 20 minutes later, the second explosion happened at the nearby Park Kultury Metro Station. At least 14 people were killed and seven others injured.
Prosecutors said that the explosive power of the two explosions was equivalent to 2 kilograms of TNT explosives. Both were detonated by suicide bombers.
A police source told reporters from RIA Novosti that this series of explosions had all the features of "a carefully planned terrorist attack."
Vladimir Markin, senior investigator of Russia, said that an investigation has been launched as to whether the series of explosions involved terrorism.
Moscow city center is currently in a state of standstill. Injured people are being evacuated by helicopter.
