A report from the Global Times on March 16 quoting a report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute about the security situation in South Asia has drawn related foreign media reports. The UK's Financial Times reported that with the rise of China's military power and South Asian countries strengthening their armaments, there is large-scale importation of modern weapons. Reuters, however, predicted that due to the recently discovered marine resources in the South China Sea, the possibility of conflict between relevant countries has greatly increased. Large-scale purchases of modern weapons by some countries have also triggered a chain reaction among neighboring countries and even throughout the entire region.
