Our staff reporter (Zhang Guo, Yuan Chunlin) -- Professor Cai Jiming, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and economist, said in an interview with our reporter that the holiday reform should not be reversed. There is no need to restore the "May Day" Golden Week, and the "National Day" Golden Week should also be canceled at an appropriate time.

Professor Cai Jiming is the head of Tsinghua University's Holiday System Research Group. He has repeatedly called for the abolition of the "May Day" Golden Week as a CPPCC member. In 2008, the "May Day" Golden Week was abolished, but for two consecutive years, some representatives and members of the Two Sessions have proposed restoring the "May Day" long holiday, many of whom are from the tourism industry.

Cai Jiming said to the reporter: "How can the tourism department hijack the national holiday system?" He believes that the tourism industry should change its mindset.

Cai Jiming emphasized that what needs to be promoted now is the improvement of the paid leave system. As long as paid leave is fully implemented, people will be able to freely choose when to take their holidays. The "National Day" Golden Week that is still retained at present is coercive for people, which is a form of "forced vacation."
