March 3 is the eleventh National "Ear Care Day". The "Ling Cong Action" of Jiangsu Province came to Changzhou, donating hearing aids worth 1.55 million yuan to the Mao Mountain Old Area.
The donation ceremony was held in the morning in Changzhou. Mr. Xu Qingxiang, chairman of the Jiangsu Disabled Welfare Foundation, delivered a speech at the ceremony. More than 80 comrades from provincial and municipal disabled persons' federations as well as some hearing-impaired people who received hearing aids from the Mao Mountain Old Area attended the ceremony.
Currently, there are 69,000 hearing-disabled people in Changzhou. Hearing impairment causes immense suffering for those with hearing and language disabilities. In March 1998, a proposal submitted by 16 members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference titled "Proposal on Establishing a National Ear Care Day Publicity Campaign" received high attention from various departments including the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the National Family Planning Commission, the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the National Medical Products Administration, the All-China Women's Federation, the China Association on Aging, and the China Disabled Persons' Federation. They jointly determined that every March 3 would be the National "Ear Care Day", and successfully organized the first National "Ear Care Day" educational publicity campaign in 2000.
