In the new TOEFL test, the writing section is often a weak point for many Chinese test-takers. This is because, compared to the reading and listening tests which are input-based tests (these sections evaluate a candidate's ability to receive English information), the writing section is entirely an output-based test. It requires candidates to have a certain level of input ability and then organize reasonable language with logical coherence. Thus, for beginners, the writing section becomes a difficult hurdle in the new TOEFL exam.

However, in reality, the writing section in the new TOEFL test is actually the easiest section to improve among the four sections: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It is also the section where many Chinese test-takers need improvement the most.
