Mr. Huang in his 30s experienced a continuous erection for nearly 7 days after taking an unknown "miracle" aphrodisiac for close to a month, causing prolonged penile congestion that nearly led to necrosis.
According to Deputy Director Yang Guosheng of the Urology Department at the Second Provincial Hospital, Mr. Huang is from Guangzhou. During this year's National Day holiday, he traveled to Guangxi and purchased a "miracle" drug recommended by a local friend to boost virility.
It is reported that on October 6th, Mr. Huang took some of the drug and continued to take it before each sexual encounter. On the evening of October 18th, after taking the drug, he woke up the next morning to find that his "root" was still erect. Initially, he felt a sense of "surprise," but soon realized something was wrong. By the afternoon of the 19th, not only did the erection continue, but it also began to cause a dull pain. Out of embarrassment, Mr. Huang did not seek medical treatment immediately and only went to the hospital on October 24th when he could no longer bear the discomfort.
Doctors in the urology department treated Mr. Huang with irrigation and arterial diversion decompression, but he remained "stiff." Later, doctors performed an arterial embolization on Mr. Huang, blocking the arteries leading to the affected area to cut off the arterial blood flow, which finally caused him to "soften."
"Persistent penile erection has an incidence rate of about 1 in 100,000 in clinical practice, making it a very rare condition; the patient's continuous erection lasted for over 140 hours, which is rarely reported domestically," said Deputy Director Yang Guosheng. "The condition is mainly due to venous blood being unable to return normally, causing the arterial blood rushing into the penile corpora cavernosa to be unable to flow back into the veins, resulting in constant penile congestion and thus maintaining an erection. Typically, treating patients involves injecting an arterial vasoconstrictor or performing an arteriovenous shunt, but these methods were used on Mr. Huang and still had no effect, which is quite rare."
Director Yang said that the penis being in a prolonged state of erection can lead to fibrosis of the corpora cavernosa and loss of sexual function, so it is important to seek timely treatment if problems arise.
