The Health Bureau has completed the organization and analysis of cancer cases for 2007, and has published the "Macao Cancer Registry Annual Report 2007."

In 2007, the Health Bureau recorded a total of 1,298 new cases that met the reporting criteria, as well as 506 (Note 1) death cases. Among the new cases, the ratio of men to women was quite even, with 654 male cases and 644 female cases. In the death cases, there were more men than women, with a total of 294 men accounting for 58%, and 212 women. The crude incidence rate of cancer in Macao in 2007, calculated per 100,000 population, was 252 for men and 242 for women. After adjustment according to the world standard age composition of the population, the standardized incidence rate (WASR) was 228 for men and 182 for women, which is comparable to neighboring regions.

The number of cases recorded in 2007, both for incidence and mortality, was the highest since the registration work began, and it was also the first year that the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Edition (ICD-10), was fully adopted for classification and coding. After combining colon cancer and rectal cancer into one group due to their similar causes and locations, the prevalence and importance of this group became more prominent, rising to the top position among all cancers in the entire population.
