On the morning of May 24, 2009, Nanyuan Pig Farm in Yichang Development Zone, Yichang City, Hubei Province suffered from violent demolition. A two-storey building and more than 2000 square meters of pigsty were leveled to the ground, hundreds of pigs were buried alive or smashed to death, and 2 workers at the pig farm were injured in the conflict during the demolition. The local public security organs have sent the injured to the hospital for emergency treatment. It is reported that before the violent demolition, the pig farm and relevant departments had not reached an agreement on the demolition compensation.
