According to Beijing's China Weekly, two farmers who collected scrap in Zhengzhou bought a box of old tea for 30 cents from Wang Zhiye's wife and found eight passbooks hidden in the tea box with a total deposit of more than 2 million yuan. The scrap collectors then "repaid evil with evil" and blackmailed Wang Zhiye. If this happened to other corrupt officials, they would definitely rather lose money than not resolve the issue with these "rascals." Unexpectedly, Wang Zhiye didn't take these few "rascals" seriously and devised a plan to have them arrested. In 2005, Wang Zhiye met his mistress Yao Yan (a pseudonym). After Wang Zhiye slept with Yao Yan, her husband found out about their affair, and the two agreed to divorce. After "leaving empty-handed," Yao Yan repeatedly asked Wang Zhiye for financial compensation. If this happened to other corrupt officials, they would definitely rather lose money than not resolve the issue with their mistresses to eliminate future troubles. However, Wang Zhiye was completely casual about it and "did not give any positive response."
