385 years ago, the 124-year-old monk Master Wuxia passed away in meditation at Mount Jiuhua. His body remained unfettered for over a hundred years and he was revered as the "Corpse Bodhisattva." It was learned from the Jiuhua Mountain Buddhist Association that not long ago, Chief Professor Zhao Chengwen of the Chinese Criminal Police Academy did a facial restoration for the Venerable Wuxia, revealing the true appearance of this Ming Dynasty Buddhist monk.
Mount Jiuhua is one of the four great Buddhist mountains in China. Since the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty when Jin Dizang opened the Jiuhua Buddhist altar, there have been 14 "Corpse Bodhisattvas" documented in this hundred square kilometer area, becoming a major feature of Jiuhua Buddhism. There are still 5 Corpse Bodhisattvas visible today, referred to as China's "Golden Mummies."
