China's SAIC: Resolutely and lawfully abolishing all kinds of illegal food advertisements
Recently, China’s State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) released recent monitoring data on the advertising market. According to reports, the total number of false and illegal advertisement cases investigated by national industry and commerce departments in the third quarter this year has decreased compared with the same period last year, but the number of food advertisement cases has increased dramatically, increasing by as high as 96.53% year-on-year.
After several years of continuously conducting special treatment for false and illegal advertisements, the order of the advertising market has been initially improved, and the number of false and illegal advertisements investigated by national industry and commerce departments has started to gradually decrease. In the third quarter this year, a total of 12,264 various types of illegal advertisement cases were investigated, which is 2,095 less than the same period last year, decreasing by 14.59%. Illegal issues frequently occurred in drug, medical, health food, loan, television shopping and other advertisement fields.
According to reports, the industry and commerce department investigated a total of 1,191 food illegal advertisement cases in the third quarter, which was an increase of 585 cases compared with the same period last year, increasing by 96.53%. The main reason for the dramatic increase in the number of food advertisement cases is that after the Sanlu milk products incident happened, the industry and commerce department organized a special treatment for the milk powder advertisement market, focusing on checking the use of absolute language in milk powder and liquid milk advertisements, exaggerating product efficacy and other false promotion behaviors that mislead consumers, resolutely and lawfully abolishing all kinds of illegal food advertisements, which caused the number of food advertisement cases to increase dramatically.
